The Techbuilt House 
I used to live in a Techbuilt at 72 Spuce Hill Rd., Weston, MA. It has been torn down and a “macmansion” has replaced it. The entire street was built out with Techbuilt houses. All owners faced similar problems: the window sliders would wear out (I made new ones for everybody from nylon sheet), the copper hot water pipes for heat would leak because they rested on sharp steel supports (I made “bearings” to go under the copper), the windows had only single-pane glass (I turned storm windows for double hung windows on their sides and installed them). And so on. The shingles could be stained in an afternoon, something they regularly needed. The overhang of the roof was constantly building ice dams; I never found a solution. 😦 It was a wonderful do-it-yourself house, located on a large lot that became more valuable than the house. And a great, friendly neighborhood.
